Was this the Magpies Greatest Try Ever?

Who remembers this unbelievable try scored at Campbelltown Sports Ground back in 1994 against the North Sydney Bears. Was it the Magpies greatest try ever?

Video: Magpies '92 Presidents Cup Premiership

The Magpies defeated the favourites, St George who had in their ranks future dragons coach, Nathan Brown plus Gorden Tallis.

The Magpies side contained current Parramatta NRL coach, Stephen Kearney and future Country Origin player, Ciriaco Mescia and others who would go on to play first grade for the Magpies.
The Magpies defeated St George in a gigantic struggle that was in doubt until a field goal by half back Josh White gave the Magpies a 15 to 14 win and the premiership.
Stephen Kearney got the ball rolling for Wests with a try after he made a block busting run 15m from the Dragons tryline busting tackle after tackle. The Dragons responded through an intercept try with Wests attacking on the Dragons 20m line and added to their tally with a further try through Tallis.
In the second half, tries to centre, Evan Cochrane and lock Matt Ryan seemed to wrap up the title for Wests until a Nathan Brown try after he scooted down the blindside from dummy half. The game looked headed for extra time but then up stepped Josh to kick the winning field goal.

2013 NRL Draw

The 2013 NRL was released today well the first 20 rounds at least anyway and in a long time it looks like campbelltown stadium has been given some good matches along with some kind scheduling. In the past sunday afternoon games were a rarity whilst monday night fixtures seemed to be the norm. Below is a list of wests tigers games to be held at campbelltown stadium next year one of which is a free to air game on channel nine..

Sun, 17 March Wests Tigers Panthers Campbelltown -Nine
Sat, 27 April Wests Tigers Broncos Campbelltown- Fox Sports
Sat, 22 June Wests Tigers Raiders Campbelltown -Fox Sports
Mon, 29 July Wests Tigers Sea Eagles Campbelltown- Fox Sports

The last game to be held at campbelltown stadium against manly will be the first time the sea eagles have played the wests tigers at campbelltown, as at least 8 home games against the silvertails since the inception of the wests tigers have been played at leichardt oval. The only other current team that hasnt yet played at campbelltown  against the wests tigers is the south sydney rabbitohs, maybe 2014 ??? Lets hope the nsw cup and possibly the bundy cup fixtures marry up to the best possible scenarios so a great day of footy can be viewed on the day by the fans.

Some other NRL Draw facts: Knights & Panthers have zero Friday night games, Sea Eagles have the most Monday Night games with 7, The Bulldogs are the only club with No Monday night games, The Raiders have only 1 free to air game & as expected the Broncos have the most Friday night games with 11 & no sunday afternoon games at leichardt oval for the wests tigers.

Video: Arthur Summons

The Magpies will always have a special place in the iconography of Rugby League thanks to Arthur Summons. The famous image of 'The Gladiators' capturing opposing Captains Norm Provan and Summons in an embrace at the end of the 1963 Grand Final has come to define the spirit of the game and continues to this day to be venerated as a symbol of all that's great about Rugby League through it's use on the NRL Premiership Trophy. After switching to League from Union Summons proved himself to be a very fine half or 5/8 in the club and test arenas and his ability was rewarded by being named the Captain Coach of the great 1963 Kangaroo touring side.

Here is the NRL's Centenary of Rugby League video tribute to Magpie and Kangaroos legend, Arthur Summons.
