Cabramatta International Nines - Feb 1st

The Western Suburbs Magpies have confirmed their entry in the 2014 Cabramatta International Nines. The competition is shaping up as one of the best on record with a number of high quality teams already confirming their involvement in the tournament.

With up to 30 teams expected to participate in the Nine-a-side tournament, a truly international flavor is already evident with the return of a Papua New Guinean development side set to join Japan, Fiji , Cook Islands and the Philippines in taking on Indigenous Australian and Ron Massey Cup sides.

With this year’s tournament taking place at the beginning of February, Rugby League International Federation and NSWRL Centre of Excellence Development Manager, Tas Baitieri, says Rugby League fans can be genuinely excited about the quality of teams who will be participating in 2014.

“The Cabramatta International Nines is always a great way to showcase the development of our emerging Rugby League nations,” Mr Baitieri said.

“After a highly successful Rugby League World Cup in Europe, this is a great opportunity for fans to come and see the emerging nations do battle with our Ron Massey Cup sides.

“To be able to see the talent that exists across the broad spectrum of the Rugby League family is one of the most enjoyable aspects of our game.

“With the NRL Auckland Nines set to become a major annual event on the Rugby League calendar, the Cabramatta International Nines is the perfect way for people to come and experience the Nine-a-side version of the game.”

The Cabramatta International Nines will take place at New Era Stadium on February 1, 2014.
