Sponsor In Focus: Pioneer Services

The success of any cleaning organisation will hinge directly on its staff and ability to systematically run operations that meet customer expectations.

It is a well known fact that businesses which operate in any service industry discipline are only as good as the people the employee. Further to this fact is that a business is also inseparable from their staff and their performance.

What is learned from this well known Service Marketing principal, is that strength in the cleaning industry will come directly from its labour force. In other words the characteristics and quality of the cleaners are paramount to any successful cleaning business.

Kelvin Joseph "Kel" O'Shea

Kelvin Joseph "Kel" O'Shea (13 July 1933 – 22 January 2015) was an Australian representative rugby league footballer, a second-rower from Queensland whose club career was played with the Western Suburbs Magpies in Sydney. He is rated among the nation's best players of the 20th century

Club career:
O'Shea first came to prominence from Queensland in 1954 when while playing for Ayr Colts, he was selected for Australia. He remained in Queensland for the 1955 season but in 1956 accepted an offer to move to Sydney to join the Western Suburbs Magpies who at that time were buying up a talent roster including Arthur Summons, Harry Wells, Dick Poole and Ian Moir in their pursuit of an elusive premiership title - an approach which earned the club their tag as "the Millionaires".

He played in three of the Magpies' four Grand final losses to St.George: 1958; 1961 and 1963.

Representative career:
He debuted for Australia in 1954 called into the forward pack to partner Norm Provan against the touring British Lions. Over the next four years O'Shea and Provan formed a solid partnership that saw them represent against all of the rugby league playing nations.

O'Shea first represented for New South Wales in 1956 after moving to Wests. He played against New Zealand in 1956 Trans-Tasman series and at the end of that year was selected for the Kangaroos playing in all six Tests and eight minor matches of the 1956-57 Kangaroo tour.

He played against Great Britain in the 1954 World Cup campaign and in 1957 was a member of Australia's victorious World Cup squad. All up O'Shea made fifteen Test and five World Cup appearances for his country.

Achievements:

In 2004 O'Shea was named at second-row in the Western Suburbs Magpies team of the century.

In 2007 O'Shea was selected by a panel of experts at second-row in an Australian 'Team of the 50s'.

In February 2008, O'Shea was named in the list of Australia's 100 Greatest Players (1908–2007) which was commissioned by the NRL and ARL to celebrate the code's centenary year in Australia.

In 2009, he was inducted into the Queensland Sport Hall of Fame for his achievements in Rugby League.

Campbelltown Advertiser: Magpies reborn with four teams

The Western Suburbs Magpies held a joint training session for their 2015 teams at Durrant Oval, Warwick Farm, on Saturday to mark the club's rejuvenation as a district club.

The club will field four teams in the 2015 season including sides for the Harold Matthews and SG Ball competitions.

This year the club will also field a Sydney Shield team for the first time in addition to their Ron Massey Cup team.

General manager and football operations Leo Epifania said having four teams was an important step to "build the club".

2015 Junior Representative Squads Finalised

It all began on 11 October last year, and after rain, humidity, blistering heat, sweat, a little blood and copious amounts of Gatorade, we now have our final junior representative squads for the 2015 season!

With two more trials before the baby Magpies get their season underway at Win Jubilee Oval against the St. George Dragons on 14 February, our SG Ball and Harold Matthews teams will put the finishing touches on their pre-season preparation before looking to atone for a 2014 season, which, by Magpie standards, was slightly off the boil.

After benefitting from an all club training session last Saturday, headed up by General Manager Leo Epifania, Ron Massey Cup coach Nathan Waters, and SG Ball Coach and former Magpies first grade halfback Josh White, our next generation of black and white champions will travel to Brookvale, Penrith and Leichhardt during the 2015 season.

Make sure you get out and support our next generation across February, March and April!

The Magpies Together Again As One

Last Saturday saw our all club training session.
Having taken back control of our junior representative squads, the club came together as one for the first time in many years.
In conditions that can only be described as oppressively humid, our Harold Matthews, SG Ball, Sydney Shield and Ron Massey Cup charges were put through their paces by our coaching staff.
A big thank you to our supporters and valued sponsors, the Fanatics, for their attendance and assistance with the post match barbeque.
Plenty of laughs were shared and the players, fans and staff all bonded as our junior reps look forward to their season commencing within the month.
Our senior teams will kick their pre-season fixtures off in February.

Wests Tigers Open Training Session

Wests Tigers will hold an open training session at Campbelltown Stadium on Thursday the 15th of January at 9:30am.

Wests Tigers are inviting all Members and fans to get their first look at the 2015 team at an Open Training Session on Thursday 15 January at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

The Open Training Session will begin at 9.30am on the main field at Campbelltown Sports Stadium with Members and fans invited to attend and see the team in action.

The full squad will take to the field next Thursday morning, with the team now well into preparations for the 2015 NRL season.

Visitors will also be able to pick up the latest Wests Tigers gear from the Merchandise Van, with the Club's Membership team also in attendance.

Nofoaluma confident about strong return

BACK running after having serious knee surgery at the end of 2014, Wests Tigers winger and Magpie junior David Nofoaluma says his confidence and self-belief is as high as it has ever been as he prepares for his best season yet under new Coach Jason Taylor.
Nofoaluma, who burst on to the scene in 2013 with a match-winning try in just his second NRL game and then the Dally M Try of the Year two months later, went under the knife after scoring a try against Manly in Round 18, 2014. A successful operation left the winger with an expected recovery time of around eight months — putting his return around the same time as the Club’s 2015 season opener against the Gold Coast Titans — and while it’s still unclear whether the Campbelltown junior will be available for selection in that match, his focus and desire for the year ahead remains steadfast.

Training together at last

This Saturday marks a rebirth of sorts for Western Suburbs.

In season 2015, Western Suburbs will have full control of our junior representative teams in the Harold Matthews and SG Ball competitions, and will also field a team in the Sydney Shield for the very first time.

On Saturday, commencing at 10am at Durrant Oval, Warwick Farm, all four Western Suburbs teams (Ron Massey, Sydney Shield, SG Ball and Harold Matts) will train together, to mark the rejuvenation of Western Suburbs as a district club.

Magpies of all ages are looking forward to a huge 2015 season with four teams entered in NSWRL administered competitions, and we look forward to our supporters being heard loud and proud during the year.

Online Memberships

Update -14:46 - 7th January: Our online Membership Process is now back online after suffering more issues with PayPal.

Our online membership application had been shut down for the time being as PayPal was having an issue verifying that we are a legitimate registered company. I had contacted them many times since this issue first arose over a month ago and even though I was ensured that we had now met all government requirements, they still restricted our account.

After contacting them by phone this morning they apologised for the mistake but said it could still be some time before their verification team un-restricts our account due to a Christmas backlog. To their credit after just one hour after the phone call we were back online.

We apologise  for any inconvenience this has caused as we worked with PayPal to get the online membership system back up and running as soon as possible.

Kind Regards

Graeme
